Module Summary
What is fitness?
We use the term “fitness” all the time in sport, but we often have different understandings of what it actually means.
Special Olympics defines fitness as...
“The state of optimal health and functional ability (movement) as a result of:
- physical activity
- healthy eating habits
- adequate hydration.”
Fit 5
Athletes want to perform their best at every competition and they can do this by being fit. You should encourage your athletes to follow the Fit 5 guide as part of their SO programme. It’s a guide to achieving fitness and their personal best performances through three simple goals.

Exercise
Exercise on at least 5 days a week.

Nutrition
Eat a total of five fruits and vegetables a day.
